Doctor Biography

Dr. Md Iftekher Iqbal, one of the country’s Young Glaucoma Specialists, is practicing as a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Phaco Surgeon at Bangladesh Eye Hospital.

He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Glaucoma Department of the Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is also actively involved with teaching and mentoring in short-term and long-term fellowship programs for cataracts (both MSICS and Phaco) and glaucoma run by his institute.

After completing his M.B.B.S. from Ibrahim Medical College, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2010, he finished his post-graduation (Master in Surgery, M.S.) in Ophthalmology in 2019 from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Later, he finished his long-term medical and surgical fellowship in glaucoma at the country’s state-of-the-art subspecialized training institute, Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital.

He has extensive surgical skills in managing complicated cases, mostly glaucoma and cataract-related ones, as well as with Glaucoma Drainage Devices (GDD), pediatric glaucoma surgeries, and different laser procedures (like LPI, SLT, and Cyclophotocoagulation); performing complicated surgical procedures (Glaucoma and Cataract-related) routinely.

Besides dealing with and managing glaucoma and cataract-related complications, he is passionate about clinical research and ophthalmic photography.

For his dedication and commitment to the nation as well as to the world as a glaucoma specialist to make aware and managing this blinding disease called Glaucoma, he is recognized as a Young Glaucoma Expert (YGE) along with Associated Board Member by the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Society (APGS) and Extraordinary Member by the European Glaucoma Society (EGS).

Research works: Glaucoma and cataract are the main research interests. He is also interested in ocular pathologies associated with systemic diseases and rare genetic disorders. Many of his research works are published in the indexed journal.

Verified Peer-reviewer: He is a verified peer-reviewer of the various prestigious internationally indexed-journal related to Ophthalmology and Medicine, including:
