Doctor Biography

Professor Dr. Sabrina Rahmatullah is an accomplished Ophthalmologist with expertise in Phacoemulsification and Vitreoretinal surgery. She serves at Ophthalmology department in East West Medical College and works as a Consultant at Bangladesh Eye Hospital, Uttara and Banani. After completing her MBBS from Armed Forces Medical College, she achieved FCPS in Ophthalmology at first attempt from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. She became the youngest female to pass FCPS in Ophthalmology during that time, followed by a Fellowship in Vitreoretina from Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute. She also received specialized training in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) from India and observership training at Westmead Hospital, Australia.

Dr. Sabrina values empowering patients with information regarding their medical condition. She sees care as a partnership between physicians and patients, where trust, communication and understanding forms the foundation of healing.

Clinical experience:

Dr. Sabrina served for a decade at Lions Eye Institute, where she was pioneer in establishing the Vitreoretina Department. With over 13 years of clinical experience in retina, Dr. Sabrina has been actively involved in teaching postgraduate diploma candidates and currently undergraduate medical students.

Her field of expertise is managing complex retinal and cataract surgeries. She has authored multiple publications.

She is a regular participant in national and international conferences and updates her knowledge with recent treatment modalities . Along with presentations in the national conferences of Bangladesh , she was also invited in SAO (South Asian Academy of Ophthalmology), Euretina Congress.

Education

  • She graduated from Armed Forces Medical College, Dhaka in 2004 and subsequently completed her 4 years post graduation training from National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, Dhaka and obtained FCPS (Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons) in 2011 in 1st attempt. She became the youngest female to pass FCPS in Ophthalmology during that time.
  • She did her 15-months Fellowship in Vitreo Retina from Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital, Dhaka, in 2013.

Training

  • Post graduation training from National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, Dhaka 
  • She did her 15-months Fellowship in Vitreo Retina from Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital, Dhaka, in 2013.
  • She received training on Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) from LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad , India under Dr Subhabdra Jalali.
  • She did her observership in Susrut Eye Hospital , India as part of Vitreo Retina Development Program in 2018.
  • li>She enrolled in an observership program of retina in Westmead Hospital and Macquaire University Hospital , Australia in 2025.
